Alice is the seat of Jim Wells County located in the south Texas plains. First called Bandana, then Kleberg, the town was finally named Alice after the daughter of Captain Richard King, who established the King Ranch. This town, which is also home to the beefmaster cattle breed, is a boarder between the brush country to the west and the coastal plains to the east.
