This settlement is located at the site of a natural pass in the Callahan divide through which buffalo traveled for centuries. It was a point on the famous Dodge Cattle Trail. Things to do in Buffalo Gap

Abilene Lake and Abilene State Park
This 595-acre lake offers fishing, swimming, boating and other water sports. Located about 15 miles southwest of Abilene. Includes a 621-acre park. Find Best Western Buffalo Gap lodging nearby.

Buffalo Gap Historic Village
This complex of 15 historic structures from the frontier settlement have all been restored and furnished and is centered around first county courthouse jail, Old Taylor County Courthouse (1878-1879). This is the second oldest building in the county. Exhibits include a country store, railroad depot, blacksmith and woodworking shop, 19th Century doctor-dentist office, two-room school, an 1880 bank, buggies and wagons, firearms and Indian artifacts.
