Like so many towns and cities in Texas, Cedar Park was originally settled in the late 1800s and owed much of its growth to the development of the railroad. A narrow gage railroad was built through Cedar Park in 1881 in order to connect Austin to Burnet for the hauling of granite in the rebuilding of the state capitol. In 1973 a prehistoric site was found that contained the skeleton of a human female that was 10,000 - 13,000 years old.

Hill Country Flyer
This nostalgic, vintage steam train is based in Cedar point and offers numerous excursions through the Texas Hill Country. In 1990 the Austin Steam Train Association rebuilt the 1916 vintage 143-ton Southern Pacific locomotive, No. 786. Located at US Highway 183 and Rm 1431. Departures are Saturday and Sunday at 10am, March - November and 10am on Saturdays in December. Call 512-477-8468 for more information.
Lake Travis
Lake Travis is one of several reservoirs along the Colorado River. Offering 270 miles of shoreline, which is devoted to camps and marinas, Lake Travis is popular for boating, skiing, and fishing. With crystal clear aquamarine water, Lake Travis attracts many water sport enthusiasts, from multi-class sailboat and windsurfing regattas to competition ski boats and cruisers. Lake Travis offers marina facilities, several public parks, and boat ramp access.
Texas Stars - American Hockey League
Cedar Park Center, a 6,800-seat multipurpose arena is home to the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League, one of the "minor" leagues of the National Hockey League.
