This city is the seat of Childress County both of which were named for George Campess Childress who was the author of the Texas Declaration of Independence. The city has a bled of agri-business and light industry and is an agricultural center for cotton, grains and cattle. Childress is also home to several historic ranches and a historic downtown area.

Baylor Lake
This lake is located 9-miles northwest of Childress. It is know for being a great Bass Fishing Lake.
Childress City Park
This park has a historical marker for Goodnight Trail, an extension of famed Goodnight-Loving Trail over which herds of cattle trekked to market.
Childress County Heritage Museum
This museum is housed in the old post office and includes industry (cattle, cotton, railroad) exhibits, local Indian artifacts and furnished period rooms. Located at Third and C Streets NW. Open Monday- Friday 9am - 5pm. Call 940-937-2261 for more information.
Childress Lake
This lake is located right next to Baylor Lake and offers 12,475-feet of shoreline.
City Fair Park
This park offers 60-acres of open space with numerous things to do. Includes tennis courts, softball fields, a playground, a fishing lake and nature trails. Call 940-937-3684 for more information.
Engine 501
This engine was presented to the city of Childress in 1959 by the Fort Worth and Denver Railroad. It stands in R Wright Armstrong Park.
Gazebo Park
This park is located in downtown Childress on Main Street. The park is often utilized by weddings.
Veterans Memorial
Some community members have taken on the tremendous responsibility of having a Childress County 20th Century veterans memorial. Currently the Memorial is still in progress until more funds can be raised for its completion.
