This city was established by the Methodist minister, L.H. Carhart, in 1878 as a "sobriety settlement." The city is now the seat of Donley County. Many of the museums in the area feature fossilized specimens that were found from the Clarendonian Age. Today farming and ranching are still the primary source of revenue for the area.
