This city is the seat of Johnson County and was established around 1854. The city was first known as Camp Henderson but in 1867 the name was changed to honor Confederate General Pat Cleburne. The County is an agricultural area featuring dairying, livestock and farming. The city's economy is supported by the diversified industries that exist here. The city's growth was initially due to the railroad as it was once the location of the state's largest railroad construction and repair shops.

1896 Santa Fe Railroad House
This historic hotel once offered food and lodging to railroad workers and passengers of the Santa Fe, Trinity Brazos Valley and Katy Railroads. The upper floors serves as a bed and breakfast. On the US 67 three miles east of I-35 West.

Anglin Rose Bed and Breakfast

Carnegie Theater and Players

Cleburne State Park
This park has 498-acres of open spaces that offers picnicking, rest rooms, showers, fishing, swimming, boat rentals, groceries, trailer facilities and hiking trails. Located 12 miles southwest of Cleburne, U.S. 67, Park Rd. 21. Call 817-645-4215 for more information.

Historic Homes Tour
On this tour visitors can view several homes in varying architectural styles that have been restored to their original 19th Century charm. These homes are open and decorated for the Candlewalk Historic Home tour that is held annually on the second Saturday of December. Call 817-641-7433 for more information.

Johnson County Courthouse
This courthouse was built in 1912 and features an open rotunda and is six stories tall. The entire building is supported by four columns of matched marble and is ornately garnished in old ivory and gold cut plaster. Looking upward into the dome, you can see beautiful stained glass. Open during business hours.

Layland Museum
Includes Johnson County historical relics, comprehensive Indian artifacts dating from pre-Columbian cultures, fossils and genealogy records. Located in the handsome 1904 Carnegie Library. Open Monday - Friday 10am - 5pm and Saturday 9am - 1pm. Call 817-645-0940 for more information.
