This city's history can be traced back to the 19th century when the land holdings were parceled out of the "Old 300." In 1877, Solomon J. Clute first acquired a large amount of land and by 1886 it was known as "Clute's Place. In the 1890s the land was renamed "Clute."

Center for Arts and Sciences
This center has an art gallery and a museum of natural science as well as a theatre center where several productions are held annually. The art gallery has changing mixed-media exhibits every six weeks that include oils, watercolors, sculpture and photography. The Museum of Natural Sciences features wildlife, fossils, rocks and minerals and an aquarium. Open Tuesday - Saturday 10am - 5pm and Sunday from 2 - 5pm. Located at 400 College Drive.
