Dayton is located at U.S. Highway 90 three miles west of Liberty in southwestern Liberty County. The town was first called West Liberty and was considered part of the original town of Liberty, divided by the Trinity River. Both parts of the town were located on the four-league Mexican land grant appropriated for the capital of the old municipality of Sant'sima Trinidad de la Libertad, which later became known as Liberty.

Liberty Opry
The Liberty Opry features country-western and gospel entertainment. There are two shows each Saturday at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm. Good Singin', Good Pickin', Good Clean Family Fun! Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center
See exhibits on a variety of Southeast Texas topics, including special collections featuring the papers of Governor Price Daniel; the Julia Duncan Welder Collection of private letters and artifacts; and the Jean Houston Baldwin Collection of Sam Houston images, the largest known collection of photographs and illustrations of the Texas hero. Trinity Valley Exposition
Annual rodeo and livestock show held in October. The event also features a barbeque cook off and parade. This is one of the largest events in Liberty County. Call 936-336-6418 for more information.
