This city was named after Louis Dumas, who was president of the town site company that founded this city in 1892. This city is the now the seat of Moore County. Oil was discovered here in 1926. The region is the nation's largest grain sorghum producing area, is the center of one of the world's largest natural gas fields and produces two-thirds of the nation's helium.

This museum features local history exhibits, memorabilia donated by pioneer families, wildlife displays and Indian artifacts. In 2004 an Agricultural and Industry building will open, which will display combines, tractors, farm equipment and more equipment related to the farming industry.
