This city is the seat of Hidalgo County and the western gateway to the Lower Rio Grande Valley. The city was first named Chapin for the townsite promoter and was renamed Edinburg in 1911. It is a center for vast vegetable and citrus culture.

Located in Boca Chica Subdelta of the Rio Grande River. Southeast of Cameron County and east of Brownsville.

Edinburg Municipal Waterparks
This family fun center is a three-pool swimming facility featuring 125-foot figure-eight waterslides, water basketball, sand-pit volleyball, barbecue grills and picnic tables. Edinburg Visitor Information Center
This information center is housed in the renovated train depot, built in 1927. The center has information on attractions, accommodations, dining facilities and area events. International Racetrack Association

Museum of South Texas History
This museum was founded as the Hidalgo County Historical Museum in 1967. Exhibits include the history of South Texas and Northeastern Mexico from prehistoric times up to 1900. All new permanent exhibits have been built in the $2.5 million New Wing, starting with a sea dinosaur and a 14-foot skeleton of a mammoth.
