The town of Ennis was established in 1872 when the railroad reached town. It was named for Cornelius Ennis, who was the director of the Houston and Texas Central Railroad. The original railroad community is now a small city that features diversified industry, including the large cotton production in the area.

Railroad and Cultural Heritage Museum
The museum houses memorabilia from the days when Ennis was a hub for the Houston and Texas Central Railroad. There is also a miniature replica of the train station in its heyday. Texas Motorplex
This is the premier NHRA racetrack that houses one annual racing event in October. Other races throughout the year include professional and amateur drag racing. The facility houses 30,000 people.
