The city of Falfurrias, Spanish for the "Heart's Delight" flower, was established in 1883. It is the seat of the ranch-orientated Brooks County and is nationally noted for cattle breeding and meat production. This, in fact, is where the Beefmaster breed of cattle originated in this county.

Don Pedrito Shrine
Local Falfurrians tell the tale of Don Pedrito, who was a Mexican faith healer that was born in Jalisco, Mexico. Legend said he was cured through faith and given the gift of healing in a vision. He came to the local Los Olmos Ranch in 1881 and for some 25-years thousands of people came to him to be cured.
