This city was named for an early rancher named Don Francisco Flores de Abrego, who established his ranch about six miles northwest in 1832. The city which is now the seat of Wilson county, was founded on land that had been donated by the Flores family. The area is known for its peanut crop and has a giant peanut statue on the courthouse lawn.

Canary Islanders Cemetery
This cemetery was established prior to 1732 by islanders who formed the first organized civil settlement in Texas at San Fernando de Bexar. Several Texas families trace lineage from those colonists. Located at Plum & 10th Streets.

Promised Land Dairy
This is home to one of the largest registered all Jersey herds in the world. The farm is on 1,100 acres just outside the city. The dairy produces ice cream the old fashioned way and uses only Texas-grown fruits and nuts when possible. A Gift shop and ice cream parlor feature old-fashioned ice cream cones and a wide variety of sundaes, as well as hot meal and deli sandwiches. You will find a petting barnyard where children of all ages can feed and pet the animals and a 9-hole miniature golf course. Restaurant/gift shop hours are Sunday - Thursday 11am - 5pm; Friday - Saturday 11am - 9pm. Tours daily. Call for extended seasonal hours. Located three miles west on Texas 97. Victor Braunig Lake
This 1,350-acre reservoir on Arroyo Seco, tributary of the San Antonio River is owned and operated by City of San Antonio. Fishing, boating and lakeside picnic areas southeast of San Antonio off I-37.
