This city, established in 1853, is the principle trade center and the seat of Hill County. The city is most known for its restored courthouse, which was erected after the fire destroyed the former one on New Year's Day 1993 and also the numerous restored Victorian homes in the area. The Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center are located at 115 North Covington in the old MK&T RR Depot.

Hill County Cell Block Museum
This museum is a repository of Hill County history and is housed in a building that served as a jail from 1893 - 1983. Includes a variety of artifacts and includes a Willie Nelson Memorabilia Room. Located at the 200 block of North Waco Street. Open April - November on Saturdays from 10am - 4pm.
Hill County Courthouse
This restored courthouse, originally built in 1890, is available for tours through the Chamber of Commerce. The district courtroom features flooring from the State Capitol building and War memorials. Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm.
Lake Whitney
This lake is one of the most popular water recreation areas in the nation. Scores of marinas, parks, recreation areas and leisure home developments can be found along the shore. There are excellent fishing in lots of sheltered coves and inlets. Located a few miles west of Whitney and accessible from Hillsboro.
Lake Whitney State Park
This park has 1,315-acres of eastern shore on Lake Whitney. The facilities that are available to campers include screened shelters, an airstrip, three boat ramps, docks, picnicking, swimming and fishing.
Texas Heritage Museum
This museum commemorates the experiences of Texans during war time. The museum houses exhibits that are devoted to the Civil War era, Hood's Texas Brigade and both World Wars. It features maps, photographs, correspondence and dioramas of the Civil War. Also includes historic firearms, edgedweaponry, historic artifacts and a historically art collection. Located at Hill College and is part of the Harold B. Simpson History Complex. Open Monday - Saturday 9am - 4pm.
